i think scientist are trying to create a smaller version of the big bang but what then will it destroy the earth or not?

Fish Posted: Sep 6th 2008

Kieran...why are you starting another thread with the same topic...?

Chocachoc Posted: Sep 6th 2008

i agree with that question.

Modelmaker93 Posted: Sep 6th 2008

hi everyone at school was on about this it freaks you out that it could destroy the galaxy not just earth. ifit happens it happens i hope it doesnt. If it does happen it was nice knowing you all:'(

kieran Posted: Sep 6th 2008
:-(

Modelmaker93 Posted: Sep 6th 2008

i am really scared now i just read that i know that we will die one day but when you read that it freaked me out

Harry Posted: Sep 6th 2008

I dont know, im abit creeped out, I dont think and hope it wont happen! Hello Everyone your all Great!

kieran Posted: Sep 6th 2008

same here,i think scientist are trying to create a smaller version of the big bang but what then will it destroy the earth or not?

i think the scientists should be stopped immediently.

cant they do it next year i want to watch wallace and gromit lol.

Harry Posted: Sep 6th 2008

I think I will be booking a trip Far Far from the world, I think it is suppost to be really small though and it is all protected, it was stuppost to be really protected as it is, and it is underground, im sure it will be fine, its suppost to be like the size of a golf ball. and inside lots of hard metal tunnels, Switzerland might have a few little problems but im sure we will be fine. There might be a few little electricity or something problems, things proberly wont be normal for a while but im sure it will be not deathly, they proberly can stop it if anything does go Bonkers!

Nathan M Posted: Sep 6th 2008

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh were gonna die :-( it was good knowing u all

jills Posted: Sep 6th 2008

I'm happy to say that if we reference the original thread on this topic we can clearly see we are not all going to die on Wednesday:

wandgfan21 Posted: Sep 6th 2008

nice knowing you if it is the end of the world. If its not lets see if the myan theory of 2012 is correct.

animation boy Posted: Sep 6th 2008

im'a go out and smoke 1000 cigarettes and drink 3 kegs of jack daniels before the world ends :D

na, that wouldnt be good because if the world caught alight, etc id be a human petrol bomb, oh and the world isnt going to end.

Harry Posted: Sep 6th 2008

Hehe, and if you did that Animation Boy, ohh boy you would be unlucky if the world dont end as you will be a 1000 times smoker and a beer lover too!

jills Posted: Sep 6th 2008

3 kegs of jack daniels (?!) and your world would end, whether or not it did for the rest of us! But don't chuck it all in, you must be pretty well off, affording all that!

plasjas Posted: Sep 6th 2008

If you smoked 1000 cigarettes before wednesday you'd prob die

Nathan M Posted: Sep 6th 2008

yeh but some ppl smoke about 100 a day anyway

Mark the shark Posted: Sep 7th 2008

I'm SCARED! If I don't get on here again, it was a pleasure knowing you all. :'(

StuartRead Posted: Sep 7th 2008

I'm not sure how I can put your mind's at rest, but the chances of the world ending on Wednesday are about 1 in 50 million. You actually put yourself in a greater risk doing day to day activities - ie. walking up/down stairs, crossing the road, driving a car, falling over etc.

Do you think research would be carried out if there was a real risk of destroying the earth? I'm pretty sure the scientists at CERN aren't Daleks :D

animation boy Posted: Sep 7th 2008

true. Your more likely to die walking over to the computer and talking about the world ending then it actually happening...

anyway ive build a wooden shelter in the garden so im safe (not)

Mark the shark Posted: Sep 7th 2008

I think they should not do it. the existence of humankind relies on this machine and it might bloody murder us all. :'(

crackingcheese Posted: Sep 7th 2008

We won't die don't worry:D

plasjas Posted: Sep 7th 2008

Im sure thy have it all under control...famous last words i suppose lol

Fish Posted: Sep 7th 2008

I plan on living through this Wednesday. If the world does indeed end (and it won't)it will happen in a fraction of a second, and we won't have time to know I was wrong about it.

StuartRead Posted: Sep 7th 2008

Further to my previous post - the fate of mankind is not at risk, because, think about it - why would researchers at CERN (where the work is going on) risk the lives of the planet? The purpose of research is to improve human understanding. What is the point of discovering particles (the point of the work - to discover a particle previously undiscovered) if no-one is going to be alive to benefit from it!?

You think the world is going to end, therefore all the people doing the research would die as well! If the work at CERN was really life-threatening, why would the scientists risk their own life and the fate of the world if no-one will be able to see the work they achieved?!

This is a school yard rumour that has gone way to far, and people who don't really understand the work that is going on are becoming worried. The world will not end! In fact people at universities are pleased that the work is going on. Did you know Bristol university is helping with the 'world-ending'? I go to Exeter Uni, so students have been getting a lot of info about it recently. The work at CERN has been going on for years - its not just a quick lets-see-what-happens thing, its very very safe.

I'm sure you'll all be laughing come Wednesday when nothing has happened. Hope this has cleared some things up for you.

plasjas Posted: Sep 7th 2008

but what is that thing about 2012 i want to go to the olympics in london

wallaceandcheese Posted: Sep 7th 2008

i am going to stop this once and for all.there is no way the partical acceliratior could end the world becouse of the speed the particels are traveling the worst it can do is ruin the machine there has been over 400 saftey tests and the scientists have said if there is any chance of dager to the world they will deativte and it would shut down in 1.1 seconds.

jills Posted: Sep 7th 2008

2012 is also nothing to worry about. The Mayans kept detailed and accurate calendars that related to "ages" of the universe that affect humankind. The calendar "stops" or marks the end of an age in December of 2012. Some people have unthinkingly taken this as a prediction that everything/the world will end at that time. If there is anything to the Mayan calendar, which is possible, it will only mean that a new phase is being entered. Think New Millennium, or on a smaller scale, the New Moon-- it doesn't mean the old moon or anything about the past was destroyed!

jills Posted: Sep 7th 2008

Oh yeah, have fun at the Olympics, plasjas! :D

squigly Posted: Sep 7th 2008

you might see conty throwing the discus there!|-)

animation boy Posted: Sep 8th 2008

actually they say if the world was to end on wednesday it would take about 4 years before we knew it. Or a fraction of a second.

Nathan M Posted: Sep 8th 2008

maybe 4 years have allready passed :O

cinders1 Posted: Sep 8th 2008

isnt it wallaces birthday on the 17th september? on a wednesday!!!! poor wallace and conty will miss their birthdays!!!!

im sure they will celebrate their birthdays and eat plenty of cake;)

squigly Posted: Sep 8th 2008

wallace and conty share the same birthday? oh well, they'll be sure to have a big bang anyway...even if the world doesn't end!

jills Posted: Sep 8th 2008

Nice one |-)

animation boy Posted: Sep 8th 2008

my brothers b days the 17th of september. But as i said earlier if this LHC was to make a bing bang it would take 4 years before we kew of it.

thespazicat Posted: Sep 8th 2008

if this fails, and were dead, i'm going to talk to god about life insurrance. >:(

Nathan M Posted: Sep 8th 2008

oh no my art hwk is i on wednesday plz help. shud i do the hwk or not :-(

jills Posted: Sep 8th 2008

Yep, you should!

Nathan M Posted: Sep 9th 2008

ok:)

squigly Posted: Sep 9th 2008

yeah, i wouldn't count on using the "end of the world" as an excuse for not doing your art homework. lol

Ursrut Posted: Sep 9th 2008

someone asked in science today about the project. The world isn't going to end tomorrow, it's going to end next year!! no i'm only joking. They are starting a thing where two molecules ( is that the word???) is sent around this tubing sort thing at such high speeds that in one second it will have gone the thing 11,000 times!!! They want to get so much energy into it ( this will take sometime) so that they can make those two molecules ( still wondering if that is the word...) collide into each other and ( this is the aim of the project) so that they can see what the big bang was like.
The most amazing thing about this project is that it is going to be the hottest and the coldest machine as well as the biggest in the world.
We were also told that the possiablity of the world ending would be very very minimal as well as the fact that if a black hole did open it would be only be for about a second. so there is no need to panic at all. And u suggest you do do you art homework i highly doubt the teacher would except the excuse that you thought you would be dead by now. ;)

Edit: Yipesss i didn't realise i did that much writing.

thespazicat Posted: Sep 9th 2008

ursurt, i now have to stop the people at my school from panicing.|-)

Mark the shark Posted: Sep 9th 2008

Wow, people are getting positive. i'm just scared. :-(

plasjas Posted: Sep 9th 2008

You know that thing about the 2012 world end, well i was discussing it today and it is the end of an age so their will be like, a new age or something. Only a few folk will live maybe it will be all of us guys on the w&g website

Rebel Posted: Sep 9th 2008

If it happens we wont get to see AMOLAD:'(

Nathan M Posted: Sep 9th 2008

the world might end tommow :(

animation boy Posted: Sep 9th 2008

there not molecules there particles btw :D

and i was thinking the same as Rebel about not seeing AMOLAD :-(

Ursrut Posted: Sep 9th 2008

i knew it was wrong i just could think of the name.

Aneesa H Posted: Sep 9th 2008

Nahh. Don't worry guys. It won't happen! It's just going to be some scientific experiment! Mini version of the big bang I think. What they're going to do is get two particles at make them travel at light speed. This is because scientists believe there aren't just proton's, neutron'd electron's. They think there might be a fourth one. By making a mini version of the big bang, they will take a picture the second there is a bang to see if there is a fourth one. Sorry I'm a stupid 13 yr old I can't explain it properly. But that's basically all I know. But I don't think they would experiment something like that if there was a possibility of the world ending. Don't worry the world is not going to end! Chill.
